After Halloween, from November 2-5, 2009, we held our 2nd annual Halloween Candy Buy-Back event.
As we all know, Halloween is a wonderful time of the year. From ghouls and ghosts to fairies and princesses, many enjoy the opportunity to enter our own world of make believe, even if its for just one day!
Our treatment coordinator Julie with over 100lbs of candy ready to go for our troops!
Along with all the fun comes the trick-or-treating and the yummy goodies that are collected. While some of those yummy treats are okay to eat, for many of our orthodontic patients, those gooey, chewy, sticky, crunchy goodies are off limits. Not only can sugary sweets potentially cause cavities, but often our braces and wires can be damaged as well.
To encourage our patients to fight off the temptation, every year we offer to buy-back Halloween candy collected. In return, our patients receive $1 per pound of candy turned in! That's right, cold hard cash!
What happends to all that candy you ask? Well, since our patient's cannot eat it, we felt it was a good opportunity to share our goodies with our brave men and women overseas who have sacrificed so much to protect us each and every day. With the help of Operation Gratitude, we take all of the candy collected and send it off to our troops overseas so that they enjoy the familiar tastes of home.
